The State Of Enchantment™ began in 1989, when a northern New Jersey based group disbanded, and some of its members decided to keep playing music together. From the very start, it was different. A friend came up with the name, and the long sweet ride began...
State Of Enchantment™ began as a trio - keyboards, guitar, drums. Greg on keyboard had great synthesizer skills and could produce a wide range of sounds, Spen on guitar had a melodic and psychedelic improvising style, and Tom on drums could produce more interest in his variations on a drumbeat than many drummers could in a full-blown solo. They had no bass player; Greg (with strong left-hand playing) and Spensser (with the aid of an octave-shifting pedal) shared the bass playing, often shifting back and forth very convincingly in one song.
They started playing at private parties, and from the very beginning lent their efforts to various charities including numerous appearances for the March of Dimes, shelters, and food and clothing drives. They began appearing on the bar and club circuit, where they quickly became the classic rock band that pushed the boundaries with a hard-rocking style and memorable and exciting originals.
Success allowed the original core group to bring in new members and explore new musical avenues. State Of Enchantment™ eventually expanded to nine members. Then, the deepening economic recession of the early 1990's made it difficult to keep the large group together. A live performing unit of four or five played the dates in this period, with the core trio augmented by musicians from an impressive pool of talent. Also at this time, the first recordings were made.
In the mid-1990's, S*O*E™ relocated several times, from Bloomfield NJ to Stanhope NJ to Allentown PA, and there were changes in the core group. The music continued to evolve through gigging and recording. The albums released through this period chronicle their musical journey. Through all of these adventures, the band's unique identity was relentlessly evolving.
In 1997, State Of Enchantment™ released "Sweet
Daddy's Back" on the Libra Records label, which signalled the new
flowering of the group and the full maturity of its goals, methods and
image. In 1999, the incredible double-CD "New Vision Café"
was released, also on Libra Records. In the summer of 2001, the highly
anticipated "Mesculine" was released. These are available on
Compact Disc through special arrangement with CDBaby.com.![]()

Their live shows are rip-it-up, no-nonsense, all energy, all about the music, as they have always been. Their recordings feature some of the finest talent around, an extended family added to the core group's virtuosity and stunning creativity.
